Mint Authority is one of the most important settings to understand when creating a Solana token.
Think of Mint Authority as the key to your token printer. As long as a wallet controls this authority, that wallet may be able to create additional units of the token.
What does Mint Authority do?
When a Solana token is created, a Mint Authority can be assigned to a wallet or another supported authority.
That authority controls whether new supply can be minted after the token already exists.
For example, imagine a token launches with a supply of 1,000,000 tokens. If Mint Authority is still active, the holder of that authority may be able to increase the supply later.
Why does this matter?
Supply is an important part of a token's design.
If users believe the supply is fixed but additional tokens can still be created, that can affect trust in the project.

What happens when Mint Authority is revoked?
Revoking Mint Authority permanently removes the ability to mint additional supply through that authority.
After a successful revocation:
- The existing token supply remains.

Should every token revoke Mint Authority?
Not necessarily.
Some projects intentionally require future minting for rewards, games, emissions or other token mechanics.
Other projects want a permanently fixed supply and choose to revoke Mint Authority.
