How to Create a Solana Token

A beginner-friendly overview of the decisions involved in creating a Solana token with ForgeMyToken.

Creating a Solana token involves more than choosing a name and pressing a button.

The most important part is deciding how the token should behave before the transaction becomes permanent.

Step 1: Choose a token identity

Prepare the basic public information:

  • Token name.
  • Symbol or ticker.
  • Description.
  • Logo.
  • Optional website and social links.

Choose information that you are comfortable publishing publicly.

Step 2: Decide the supply

The total supply determines how many tokens you initially want to create.

The right number depends on the project's token design.

A larger supply does not automatically make a token more valuable, and a smaller supply does not automatically make it scarce in an economically meaningful way.

Step 3: Choose decimals

Decimals determine how divisible the token will be.

Think about whether users will need tiny fractional balances or whether the token is intended to behave more like whole units.

Step 4: Understand authorities

Before creation, understand the role of:

  • Mint Authority.
  • Freeze Authority.
  • Metadata update authority.

Do not revoke an authority simply because another project did. Choose settings based on your own token design.

Step 5: Review metadata

Check the spelling of the name and ticker.

Verify the description, image and links.

This becomes especially important if you later decide to make metadata immutable.

Step 6: Connect your wallet

Use a compatible Solana wallet and make sure it is connected to the expected network.

Never share your private key or recovery phrase with the website.

Step 7: Review and sign

ForgeMyToken prepares the supported creation transaction.

Your wallet then presents the transaction for approval.

Check the transaction and costs before signing.

After creation

Once the transaction confirms, keep the mint address somewhere safe.

You can use the mint address with ForgeMyToken Token Review to inspect supported authorities and metadata configuration later.
